Men's Health Network (MHN) comments on the Implementation of the 988 National Suicide Hotline Improvement Act of 2018.

While the Affordable Care Act (ACA) has done much to increase access to health care and preventive services, Men's Health Network finds that unequivocal discrimination and gender inequities continue to exist. These inequities should be prohibited under Section 92.1, as males are being systematically excluded from numerous benefits which are granted to females. MHN's suggested changes to the law.

Many men face distinctive health issues. The life expectancy for men in the United States is about five years shorter than for women. Men visit their healthcare providers less frequently than women. 1 in 3 American men suffers from a condition related to cardiovascular disease, and cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death for men. Men are 4 times more likely to commit suicide.

Draft research plan regarding Sexual Transmitted Infections Behavioral Counseling. MHN agrees that STD counseling should be part of many healthcare visits, and a necessary component of a preventive healthcare visit, but there is little opportunity for men to receive counseling because the Affordable Care Act does not provide for regular preventive healthcare visits for men as it does for women.
